Epic conclusion to Nolan's Batman trilogy
Having been a huge fan of Chris Nolan's previous two Batman films, couldn't wait to watch this when it was released. And The Dark Knight Rises didn't disappoint. The conclusion to the trilogy is fitting for the franchise, for Batman, and for Bruce Wayne (though I have read rumors that Nolan might come back for another film in the series or maybe a Batman/Superman film - hope some of this is true!).

The film starts with a frail Bruce Wayne having pretty much retired and living a private life eight years after he eliminated the Joker. The peaceful Gotham City where police officers feel they will soon be "chasing overdue library books" is rocked by a series of events orchestrated by the ferocious and calculating villain, Bane.

The pace of this film is slightly slower (and heavier) compared to the previous two films, partly because there are a lot more characters in this film, and Nolan being the master storyteller that he is, gives each character enough time in the...

I have been a huge Batman fan since I was a kid. From the comics, to the movies, to the cartoons and the games, but I absolutely loved this series the most. This series really hit the darker side of Batman and gave it a little more of a realistic touch. Batman The Dark Knight Rises, in my opinion, made Bane one of the scariest, most intense villains in any super hero movie I've seen in 2012. I think this movie did a great job ending this specific series, and even still it left me wanting more, but I was very satisfied with the ending. It was intense, fun, and even amusing at times. All around I think its a great movie, a great series and for me it was a definite buy! Hope everyone else can enjoy this movie/series as much as I did.

4 Stars. This was pretty damn good but it definitely had its problems. Bane's voice was almost impossible to make out most of the time. The addition of Catwoman was okay but nothing really extraordinary. There was very little screen time for Bale which he probably wasn't happy about so this really came off more like 'Bane and Robin' rather than 'Batman and Robin'. The biggest problem though is the first act.

It really drags and they could have lost about 10 or 15 minutes to tighten up the pace. Once the second act kicks in though, that's when the whole story becomes really engaging. It's awesome how Bane unintentionally 'recreates' Batman without knowing it. There is definitely some repetition of ideas from the first two which is probably why this is the last one but overall it is probably the darkest of the three. This is definitely better than the latest Spiderman.

The criticism about this third chapter not fitting in with the whole series could not be further...

Batman Begins:

Disregard all the naysayers claiming this is a money grab. No, it's called having a choice. Not everyone wants the Super Duper Ultra Rare Limited Collector's Edition, that's often filled with a bunch of useless physical items. Some people just want to have the trilogy and nothing more. For $30 (currently), you get just that, and even a little bit more.

If you're reading this, odds are you already own at least one of the movies included here. Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy stands as one of the best, and most successful comic book screen adaptations of all time. Warner has released, and re-released these movies several times over the years. Unfortunately, previous Blu-ray releases have not been perfect. The movie is fantastic if you love Miyazaki in s personal way
Miyazaki is an animation genius who got his start drawing airplanes……and so his last film before retirement is about a kid who grew up to design airplanes. I can't help but wonder how autobiographical this is.
This film encompasses one half of everything that makes Miyazaki great. Miyazaki came out of retirement once before and made Ponyo. That film carried his Speilbergian love of childhood, his whimsey, his environmental political views (its in small doses and does not ruin the film for a second), and dreamlike art on the border between terrifying and heavenly. That is half of all Miyazaki films that appeals to kids. The Wind Rises is the other half. The side of Miyazaki that loves flight and engineering, tides of tragedy, and the little beautiful things lost in plain sight in the lives of his characters and makes you cry with hope.
Beautiful animation and a fitting swan song for the director of the best animated films of this century……..unless...
Hayao Miyazaki's swan song is just about perfect
The trailer for The Wind Rises only hints at some of the film's secrets, but it's worth a look if you are completely new to the works of director Hayao Miyazaki. This is not a slick Disney production in 3D with modern graphics, but a softer 2D watercolor piece. All of Miyazaki's movies use this style and it can be disappointing for some. I find it utterly beautiful.

If you are familiar with Miyazaki, the important thing to note is that The Wind Rises is different in tone to all of his established classics. This is a movie set in the real world, and it tells the story of, Jiro Horikoshi, who designed Japanese fighter planes during the second world war. I was worried that the story might disappoint, as I love Miyazaki's fantasy worlds, but all of the magic was present.

One thing I should mention immediately is that this is not a story that is likely to engage young children in the way that Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, or Kiki's Delivery Service did. The two main...

What is there left to say that hasn't been said of this movie? For those who haven't watched it, Pixar's Up is notable for its opening scenes that beautifully expresses the emotional heft the main character will carry for the rest of the movie. It's wistful, heartbreaking, and can compete with any 5 minutes of any other film - animated or not - as the most touching ever put onscreen. In almost typical Miyazaki fashion, the entirety of The Wind Rises achieves that same affect and poignancy.

With that said, it will bring feelings out of you, simply put! That's not to say it's a depressing movie, but it's emotionally fulfilling on a level few animated films have been able to express (and to be honest, those few films are mostly Miyazaki films). As you watch the life of a Japanese man building aircrafts for his country and finding love, The Wind Rises does carry a somber tone due to the plain fact that this is Miyazaki's supposed last film.
