Spend some time with this diabolical duo in the fantasy story adored by fans and critics alike. Featuring Tony Award-nominee Bertie Carvel (Matilda the Musical) as Jonathan Strange and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) as his arch-rival magician Mr. Norrell, the clash between these two British magicians is about to become a dangerous duel of the dark arts where, in the midst of the Napoleonic wars, the real battle is between their oversized egos.

Review :
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is a triumph in its transfer to the screen
Having watched the high-definition version of the long-awaited seven part serialization of the Susanna Clarke novel about the return of magic to Napoleonic-era England after a 300 year long absence, it is gratifying to say that the series more than does the book justice. Those of us who loved the novel were somewhat worried that no single film could approach its richness of characterization and period detail, and certainly no two or three hour film could. But a seven part serialization with production values as high as any I've ever seen, a recreation of the era that is so lovingly detailed you would think that you were watching a documentary rather than a drama, and acting so spot-on that the characters seem to have literally leapt off the page and on to the screen, give this series all of the life that made the novel so remarkable. Not since the 1995 Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice has there been a small-screen version of a celebrated novel as brilliant as this one...
Magic is returned to England...and television.
I have not loved a TV show as thoroughly and completely without complaint since Firefly. An absolutely astounding bit of entertainment in its own right, it also has the distinction of being one of the purest adaptations in book-to-television or book-to-film history. I can't think of an adaptation this faithful since the Megan Follows-led Anne of Green Gables.

I cannot possibly recommend it enough. I intend to buy multiple copies and give them away as gifts. Even to people I don't like that much.

So absolutely worth your time.

An extraordinary production
I can make no comparisons to the book since I've not read very far in it yet, but perhaps that's a good thing. Every work of art must be it's own thing, borrowing, certainly, inspired by other things, certainly, but copying nothing. And honestly I have never seen anything quite like Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

On the surface it's a tale about how magic re-enters the world. But if that was the only thing it was about, it would almost certainly not be as rich and intriguing as it is. Magic isn't really the central focus here. Rather, what we see is the politics of magic (and life), the tension between different ideologies with Norrell upholding the idea of practical, disciplined, "respectable" magic, and Strange seeking the old, wild magic of the Raven King. Neither sees that the two are not mutually exclusive.

Everything about this production is perfect. The performances are superb, the sets and costumes spot on period pieces with just enough...

But how far are they willing to go to protect each other and their families, and who can they really trust? Orphan Black is back with more adrenaline-charged action, intrigue and suspense than ever before!

Review :
In for the long haul.
"Orphan Black is a show that I would be unlikely to watch. Not my choice of viewing fare". These were my thoughts when the BBCA started promoting OB for the first season. I was running out of shows I do enjoy, and thought I'd just take a chance, step outside my viewing comfort zone and give OB a try. Major score on my part. The show has a nice little plot line that could quickly grow stale if mishandled. The direction, filming and writing have been outstanding from the start. There's no notable difference from episode 1, season 1 than the end of season 2. The cast? I'm sure many have read the reviews, the feedback on the cast and if you think it's all media hype, you're mistaken. And yes, Tatiana Maslany is everything she's stated to be and more. How in the world she's not been nominated for an Emmy is beyond me but her fans and the fans of Orphan Black are all she really needs. She'll do more in the future but please, let's not get too far ahead. We need many more seasons of...
I love the story
I love the story, the suspense, the drama, the action, and the fact that so many new and important events take place in each episode. You never get bored. The actress that plays all the characters is very versatile. As intense as the series is, there are many entertaining things that happen as well. I have found myself laughing when I should have been covering my eyes and screaming. I really like Helena. She is my favorite. An unpredictable lunatic who will capture your heart. I would like to say a lot more, but I don't want to spoil it for you. I can only assure you, that you will like it so much that hours will fly while you watch it, and you won't even realize it.

The best show you aren't, but should be, watching!
I cannot wait for Season Three to start! My Mom introduced me to this show last March. She had downloaded them onto my Kindle and told me to watch. And I watched, for seven and a half hours straight. The first time. I watched the first season four times in the two weeks before the second season started. It's that good. Tatiana Maslany is amazing as Sarah, Cosima, Helena, Allison, Beth, Rachel, Katya, Jennifer, etc. (Don't worry, you won't have to keep up with all of those characters!) Before she opens her mouth you can tell which of the characters she's channeling, not because of the different hairstyles or clothes, but because she's made them each a different woman. When I watch the show, it's so easy to believe I'm watching different actors playing different characters. When Allison steps in to help Sarah, by pretending she is Sarah, what you see is Allison pretending to be Sarah, not Tatiana being Sarah. The entire cast is brilliant, and they each hold their own against these crazy...

Review :
Extraordinary Classic British Mysteries With an Extraordinary Actress
Oh Frabjous Day! The last set of the remastered Miss Marples starring Joan Hickson is available to order. I have all her Marples on the 2000 DVD issues. But I've watched them so many times I decided to buy Volume One of the remastered sets, just to see if it would be worth it. It was! Now I have Volumes One & Two and the colors are bright and beautiful, the viewing sharp, the sound cleaned up, and the mysteries and personalities as wonderful as ever.

Volume Three has four episodes and one bonus extra on the last disc. The bonus is Part 3 of Dr. Lucy Worsley's 3-part TV series "A Very British Murder". (Parts 1 and 2 of Worsley's fun look at murder in England appears on the Miss Marple remasterings' Volume One & Two.)

Following Volumes One & Two, the Volume 3 episodes are presented in the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Sound is still mono, but it has been cleaned up. English subtitles are available. There's a total 450 minutes of excellent mystery...
Brilliantly restored from original films
Even thought these were filmed in 16mm (the BBC standard) they will still be a great improvement over the old washed out standard definition film transfers from the early 1990's.

The episodes have been completely remastered to high definition quality from the original film elements by BBC Studios and Post Production's Digital Media Services team.

Regarded by many fans as the definitive Miss Marple, Joan Hickson was one of the oldest actresses to take a lead role in a major television series when she was cast as Agatha Christie's soft-spoken, sharp-eared sleuth at the age of 78 in 1984. She retired eight years later, having completed 12 mysteries in the Miss Marple series - four of which are collected in this volume.

These are in their original BBC versions, which varied greatly in their broadcast. Some as one episode, others split into multiple episodes.

It is amazing what they have done with digital corrections and blue ray. Compare these to the old series on dvd and there is no connection. The new series are like a whole new program. Yes it is in box format but this is because the 16mm film format is box format. The sound is clear and not mufilled, there are subtitles. The colors have contrast, saturation and crispness. They are not cheap, but the tech hours to redue these films is enormous! The price is worth every penny. These dvds will last for generations. There was only one Joan Hickson.

Completely remastered to high definition quality from the original film elements by BBC Studios & Post Production Digital Media
I have been waiting for this since the Poirot's were re-mastered in HD from the original 16mm film elements.

Most Authentic Miss Marple
For the person who said the list of episodes is not listed, the titles are right on the front of the box! (just look at the picture of the DVD box). I have enjoyed all the versions of Miss Marples by the various actresses who have portrayed her, but Joan Hickson is the most authentic. She plays the part just as Agatha Christie wrote it and exactly how I envisioned her when I read the books.

Miss Marple: "When there’s anything fishy about, I never believe anyone at all! You see, I know human nature so well.”
“Murder at the Vicarage”
“The Body in the Library”
“The Moving Finger”
“A Murder is Announced”

These adaptations of Agatha’s Christie’s deliciously entertaining mystery novels are just that; finely adapted from the original stories. In addition, they are exquisitely well handled by Joan Hickson as Miss Marple. Each story, moreover, has been completely remastered so that they look much better, as well.

Of course, one can be fans of the talents of Geraldine McEwan (and/or Julia McKenzie), but should you watch versions of these stories featuring Geraldine McEwan you will be ‘treated’ to---just to mention a few inventions--a flashback of an affair of Miss Marple’s with a married man in Murder in the Vicarage, the surprise of a different murderer in the Body in the Library and lesbian issues in both that adaptation as well in A Murder is Announced.

Consequently, if...
