Review :
Didn't want to like it, ended up loving it.
I was hesitant to watch this series, not expecting it to be nearly as good as the original Avatar. I now believe it's just as good as the original while maintaining its own originality. It's a great story for anyone from 7 to 120 years old.

"Only the Avatar Can Master All Four Elements and Bring Balance to the World..."
If I'm being really honest, I wasn't hugely impressed with the first season of The Legend of Korra. Being such a huge fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender (of which Korra is a sequel/spin-off), I felt that "Korra" was somewhat rushed and clunky in comparison, not helped by the significant reduction of episodes that led to a more limited amount of time in which to tell the intended story.

But I was still looking forward to "Book Two: Spirits", hopeful that creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko could iron out the kinks and deliver a show that recaptured the magic of the original series. And they did! Or at least, they came extremely close, though "Avatar" is probably too dear to my heart to ever be fully eclipsed.

For those completely unfamiliar with the premise of the show, here's the gist: set in an...
Korra's Back With A Bang! (Minor Spoilers)
Absolutely loving the start to book 2 so far! In particular, I'm glad that we've gotten to get away from Republic City for a bit. After all, part of the charm of The Last Airbender was getting to travel around with the Gaang, and see the different architectures and cultures of the four nations. I also enjoy the dichotomy of light and dark represented in the spirits, and alternatively expressed in the civil war between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes. More than anything else I notice a lot more humor in this season. The platypus-bear pooping money, and the demented quasi-romance between Bolin and Eska had me dying. Thus far we are only four episodes in, but I'll be editing this review as the season progresses with my continued thoughts. Based on what I've seen so far alone this season deserves the 5 stars I gave it. Absolutely love Avatar, and love Korra!

UPDATE 10/18/2013:

WOW, I just finished the two part episode "Beginnings" and I have to say that not...

From the creators of the Award-winning Avatar: The Last Airbender, comes a new TV series that continues the exciting adventures of element bending. When Avatar Aang passes, he is reincarnated as a girl named Korra, from the Southern Water Tribe. Against the wishes of her guardians, Korra leaves the safety of her home to travel to Republic City. Before long, Korra’s Avatar skills are put to the test when she encounters a group of Chi-blockers led by a masked man named Amon. With his Equalists followers, Amon plots to gain control over Republic City and ultimately rid the world of the “impurity” of bending. Korra and her friends will stop at nothing to capture him, leading to an Avatar adventure like nothing before in Legend of Korra: Book One: Air!

fast paced and exciting
After the original series Avatar: The Last Airbender ended, the Nickelodeon folks (for some reason unfathomable to me) quashed any hopes of ever reviving it. They eventually confirmed that fans had shown a positive response to Avatar Kyoshi and were interested in starting up a new series based on a female Avatar and to avoid a rehash of Aang's adventures it would be set in a single semi-modern city and feature people who are anti-bending of any element. True to their word, enter Avatar Korra. If you're wondering about Zuko's mom or are craving a continuation of the gang's adventures I recommend Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Promise, Part 1. The book raises more questions than it answers but it is definitely a start to unraveling the mystery. The rest of the comics are as of 5/18/2012 unpublished so we have no choice other than to be patient and let the series creators tell the story in their own time/way...
Great for the whole family
I was a dedicated fan of the original. My daughter (5) and I routinely watch the original series. I approached the new one with trepidation they might ruing the legacy (can you blame me after the movie) and hope that the original creators wouldn't let me down.

This new series has delivered beyond my expectations. It takes the original and advances it - creating something that is both familiar and new at the same time. For fans of the original, there are many shout outs and in-references to characters and events past. There is humor, drama, intrigue, and a villain with a mysterious enough back story to pull you in. I don't want to say too much and risk spoilers.

I also like the strong female role model. As a dad of two, its nice to see lead female characters. Avatar has always had strong female role models, and this series is no different.

Newcomers, do not worry if you haven't seen the original. My wife can count on one hand the number of...
Korra Arrives Early
I just finished watching the first episode of Legend of Korra. I was very pleasantly surprised that it arrived early on Amazon. I have been looking forward to this show since seeing the preview at last year's Comicon. It is definitely different from the first three season of Avatar but very enjoyable. Korra is a very strong, willful teen girl who can kick butt and take names, but like Aang has a lot to learn about the world and her place in it. This episode does a good job of introducing new characters, giving some closure on old characters, and introducing a new world for the rest of the series. It left me exciting and looking forward to the rest of the series.

Review :
this is the season that Last Airbender fans should enjoy most. For me
I understand that there's been a lot of criticism about Korra from people who grew up watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. And that's understandable. A lot of what the original series brought to the table - the humor, the quirky protagonist, the epic scale of the narrative - was very uncommon in animated series at the time and hasn't been done well by many series since.

That said, this show is NOT the last airbender. Aang is not the protagonist, the scale of the first two seasons was relatively limited to one location, and the focus on relationships (while in my opinion understandable given the shift in age of the major characters) was a noticeable deviation from the original format that left a sour taste in many peoples' mouths. Season 2 in particular felt fairly contrived and rushed, leaving a lot of things unresolved and culminating in a somewhat cliched and deus-ex-machina finish. So for some, expectations were at a low coming into this season, and many of my friends...
The Best Korra Season Yet.
I'll update the review once the season is finished airing but 5 episodes in, it is safe to say that this is the best episode of The Legend of Korra yet.

Studio Mir is back animating all of the episodes this season and once again, it is probably the most beautiful animation on television. The fight scenes in particular stand out as they a fluid and fast paced.

Unlike last season's disappointing villain, this season seems to be stepping it up with a group of four criminals who's motives are shrouded in mystery. They are powerful and make a formidable enemies for Korra and I can't wait to see how their story plays out.

One of the issues many people had with Book 2 of this series was that the main characters always seemed to be at each others throats instead of working as a team. That is not the case here. Team Avatar is back and working together and unlike last season, you can believe that they are a very close group of friends.

It's fun,...
Dafauq is with Viacom
Let me get this straight Viacom, company that owns Nickelodeon, has refused to let streaming/online purchasing of Korra Season 3 solely to get viewership up for actual broadcasts. I'm sorry I love the show but I work nights and can't make the normal airtime of the show. The fact that the first three episodes have already premiered and they have not released them through digital outlets like this one is BS. I wanna support the show and buying the digital season pass is how I do it cause I can't watch it any other way.
