A masterpiece! An excellent film about courage, hope and human dignity facing the all powerful totalitarian tyranny!
"Hunger Games" is certainly the best film I have seen since many many months, and it is a very successful adaptation of an excellent book.

In my personal opinion, both the book and the film are much deeper and much more ambitious, than what most critics and reviewers would make us believe. After reading the reviews in "New York Times", "Le Monde" and on "Msn.com" (to cite only few) I was surprised that they mostly missed everything that is important in this film. With a kind of amused superiority, which people from Capitol in this movie would immediately recognize, the "professional" reviewers pointed at the obvious allusions to gladiator fights, the reality shows, the importance of trashy entertainment in today's TV, the search for a new franchise able to replace "Twilight", etc., etc.

But they almost entirely failed to see, that this film is first and above all about much more important things: how to keep hope, not lose the courage and preserve humanity and...
Too pretty, too santized -- the film has none of the emotional impact of the novel
Director Gary Ross's version of Suzanne Collins's HUNGER GAMES manages to sanitize the entire concept of kids-killing-kids in order to produce a PG-13 blockbuster that's sure to rake in the big bucks. But what was devastating and heart-wrenching in the novel is glossed over and prettified here, leaving me feeling none of the emotional impact I experienced in reading the book.

Don't get me wrong, this is a slick and well-made film, with plenty of action and a sensational performance from Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen. The settings are well done, especially the Capitol in all its crazy-colored chic-ness and over-the-top luxury. Big fan of the book, but the movie was just so-so for me
I understand that with any adaptations from books to movies, you lose a lot of the background & character work. It's difficult to really interpret the author's written words on screen. I think there were a lot of wasted opportunities here to layer more of the background underneath the scenes. Too much & it drags the pace down. Too little & the characters become more shallow, less layered. You want to care about the majority of these characters & I really was drawn in by them in the book. The movie left me wanting. While the action of the movie is important, it's not the most important part of it. I feel as if the whole premise of the books was lost in trying to ramp it up with action & with the action not even occurring where I really wanted it to be.

I wanted to like this movie more & had I not read the book first, I probably would have. However, reading the book first provides so much back story that you can actually follow what's going on & understand the 'why's &...

A Psychological Slow Burn: A Show That Stays Remarkably True To The Legacy Of Hannibal Lecter
I think it's fair to say that Hannibal Lecter became an American horror icon for most people with the Oscar winning film "The Silence of the Lambs." Personally, I discovered Lecter back in 1981 when author Thomas Harris introduced him in "Red Dragon." As a kid, I read this novel with a sick fascination and it was easily the scariest book I had read up until that point. Michael Mann adapted it into the film "Manhunter" in 1986 with character actor Brian Cox in the Lecter role, but it wasn't until 1991 and Anthony Hopkins that Lecter became incredibly popular. Hopkins revisited the role with another interpretation of "Red Dragon" and then "Hannibal," and has owned the role ever since. When I heard that NBC was helming a drama based on Lecter, I thought it was a disastrous idea! Network television is no such place for such evil! A savory slow-burn, psychological thriller
Binged through 13 episodes of Hannibal last night. Wow. For the record, this is my first review ever on Amazon EVER and I felt I owed it to the actors and the producers and all the talent involved to tell everyone how incredible this show is. If you have ever read the books, this show is extremely loyal to the text, and therefore the character development and build-up is fantastic. The production and visuals are absolutely GORGEOUS, I mean flat-out delicious to look at. And they all serve a purpose, from Hannibal's exquisite dining dishes hand-prepared, to walking through a crime scene in the volatile mind of Will. The crime scenes are even more disturbing than Seven, you will be immersed completely into a beautifully dark world. The soundscapes are chilling. The tone is wonderfully dark. And the acting is top-notch. I've recently been such a huge fan of the extremely talented Mads Mikkelson, and he carves out a brilliant Hannibal Lecter that I absolutely find irresistible...
Brilliant and exquisite. Hugh, Mads, and Lawrence are great to watch.

This is one of the best shows on TV. Great cast & writing. The special effects are the best there is. This is not a series for children. This is NOT a family show. It is for adults period. I have heard lame parents complain that the series is not family friendly... DUH!!!! It is Hannibal! It is not a show about rainbows and unicorns.
This is strictly adult TV.
Intelligent, well developed stories and characters. It is a series that knows what it is and exceeds audience members expectations. If you like shiny crappy vampire TV this also may not be for you, because the characters aren't bed hopping blood suckers. Hannibal's characters are actually interesting and they actually have depth.

An atypical Holocaust film that is engaging, thought-provoking, and heart-wrenching
2008 was a very big year for films adapted from books, with several reaching the high acclaim of Academy Award nominations. One adapted film that didn't get much recognition, however, is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, based on the novel by John Boyne.

The film opens with the following quote emblazoned on the screen: "Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows." As the quote suggests, this is a sort of coming of age film, and over the course of 94 minutes,those in the audience slowly watch the innocence of children unravel before their eyes as the reality of what is taking place becomes more and more illuminated.

This emotionally wrenching film deserves 10 Stars. Changed my life forever and a major part of my life was spent in motion pictures. The movie will change your life everlastingly too if you open your heart to a simple fictional story of a little German boy who befriends a Jewish boy through the barbed wire fence of a concentration camp.

My heart was ripped out, but I will be a more loving, gracious, forgiving person for having seen this sensitive and also horrifying motion picture. YES, as the reviewers have said: It is "historically inaccurate to the extreme." "It is total fiction." It is "ridiculously contrived." It is "all too absurd." It is "hard to swallow." It is "forced and artificial," and "The actors have British accents instead of German."

One critic posed the question, "Did Bruno's father in the end get what he deserved?" Such moralizing and such criticisms of the film make me wonder if those...
A very good, thought-provoking film.

After I read the novel by John Boyne and heard the news that a movie adaption was currently in theatres, I was slightly scared that the film would be too extreme and dramatic for me, because I don't do well at all with films that scare me or make me sad- and thinking about the plot of the book, I knew watching a movie version would tear me to pieces.
But, as it happened, my school went on a field trip to see the movie a few weeks after I finished the book, and I ended up having to watch the whole movie through and write a report comparing and contrasting it from the novel. And guess what?- I sobbed like a baby in front of all my friends.
Although the last parts of the movie are very sad and deeply patronizing, it is overall a very good adaption of the book that caused so much controversy among young readers like me(I'm 15 by the way).
