Due for re-release in December, this motion picture is one of the finest science fiction films of the 20th century. Part of this is because it projects a future that could be - the earth as a place with a ruined environment populated by people that couldn't or wouldn't make the jump to one of the more habitable off-world colonies. The other part is because the film questions what it means to be human, and explores the possibly unsatisfactory answers you might get if you could, like the replicants, hunt down your maker and ask him Why am I here? Why must my life end? I'll pretty much let Warner's press release do the talking from this point forward. Basically you have your choice of three different sets - 2-disc, 4-disc, and 5-disc. The discs are described as follows:

More Human than Human, that's our motto ...
Having seen this movie probably more times and in more different formats than most people, I thought it was time I write a few words about this masterpiece of filmmaking. Truly, I wasn't boasting with my assertion that I've seen this movie as much as I have (I watch this movie almost once a week and have done so for almost 10 years). I own several, still unopened, VHS tapes that for a large part of the nineties I did my best at collecting. I own the Japanese Laserdisc version, a rare bootleg VHS version that was distributed over the internet a handful of years ago that has the narration selectively placed back into the Director's Cut version of the film, not called the Esper Version as some would want to label it, the Director's Cut and now the HD version of the Final Cut. That makes 5, but 6 if you count the Workprint version that comes with this box set. So, I would say that's one more than most.

Finally, the version I've been waiting for and many others as well. For years Blade Runner fans have been subject to the insane number of versions of Blade Runner and even the 5 disc Blu Ray copy that really is not worth the price you pay. The Final Cut is the version to have if you truly love the Blade Runner experience and have always hated the annoying voiceover by Harrison Ford that has plagued various copies of the film. Ridley Scott himself was able to have full artistic license with this film and you will not be disappointed. What you will be greeted with is a very clean, crisp HD version of the film and just the best single copy out there without all the extra discs of fluff and crappier versions. This version has the omitted voiceover, alternate ending without the "happy resolution" and the inclusion of the Unicorn dream. Any other reviews that knock the film are most likely fans of the voiceover which spoon feeds you information and takes away the lonely rainy feeling you...

A disturbing but worthwile film
There has been some very harsh criticism of this film even with N. Cages outstanding performance. Unlike many I did not find this story too slow or boring or "staid", nor do I see this as a redemption story unless you consider selling out your most important ideals as 'redemptive'. Instead this is an emotionally complex story about a man who has every intention of doing the right thing, someone who wants to rise to the occasion but find the forces of power around him unwilling to give him sway in the direction he wants to go. This character is an alcoholic, needy for love and public acceptance. He faces political scandal, a rocky marriage and is burdened with the needs of some 500,000 powerless people who need him to fight on their behalf.

The message of this film is disturbing but honest; the money bags are in control of our lives and our democracy, they can back a man with good intentions back into a corner until he gives in. The journalist Chris Hedges often says...
A rare new Cage film that's actually GOOD
A film that definitely should be considered, along with The Frozen Ground and Joe, as a pretty good addition to Nicolas Cage's filmography as he goes into the straight to dvd/vod portion of his career. The Runner is a surprisingly good movie about a Louisiana Congressman, while trying to help his community in the wake of the BP oil spill, has his career derailed because of a sex scandal and tries to redeem himself in the eyes of the people he feels he let down.

Movie provides a really interesting, sobering look at politics and just exactly who the power players are how they make things happen. How they can create and takedown superstars as they please and how easily politicians can be bought by various industries. In addition to a great performance by Cage, there are great performances by Peter Fonda, Connie Nielson, Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce in smaller roles. Only downfall of the movie is its short running time. Movie is about 85 minutes long before the credits...

This is a dystopian Sci-Fi film in which teens are trapped in a massive walled glade. They have to learn to get along and each are asked to use their skills to the benefit of the entire group. All of the people are boys. The glade has one entrance, or is it an exit? It opens in the daytime and closes at night. It leads to a colossal maze that changes shape every day and at night it is filled with creatures called grievers that kill whoever remains in the maze. Some of the strongest and fastest boys are chosen to be maze runners and their job is to try to find a way out. In the span of years they have failed after daily excursions into the maze.

A large elevator cage (The Box) pops out of the ground and delivers minimal supplies and a greenie to join the group. The cage will not go back down unless it is empty so no one can escape. Thomas, the newest greenie, is trouble as he is struggling to follow the group's guidelines and he is to inquisitive. He wants out and he will...
A Thrilling Sci-Fi Adventure!
The Maze Runner is one of my favorite YA novels and I was a bit worried about how it would translate it to the screen. Though The Maze Runner takes liberties with its source material, these alterations were extremely necessary to make the story faster paced and work on a visual level. This is definitely one of the best YA adaptations I've ever seen and it's no surprise to me that the producers of this film were also involved in the making of The Fault In Our Stars film.

The special effects in this film are incredibly well-done and the filmmakers brought Dashner's novel to light perfectly. The Grievers weren't quite what I expected, they were frankly even better and more horrifying than I could ever imagine. I'm so glad that they only hinted at the creatures in the promos because it will just add a layer of mystery and horror to audiences' movie experience.

The set design is a vivid recreation of the world from the novel, but at the same time it's a bit...
