Review :
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (Complete Series): 41 DVDs; 105 episodes; 5 DVDs of bonus Special Features.
OVERVIEW:

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is an American television series broadcast on NBC from September 22, 1964, to January 15, 1968. It follows secret agents, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, who work for a secret international counter espionage and law and enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement). The series consisted of 105 episodes originally screened between 1964 and 1968, with the first season in black-and-white, with the rest in colour. Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) was to have been the focus, but a scene featuring a Russian agent named Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) drew enthusiasm from the fans and the agents were paired. Leo G. Carroll played Alexander Waverly, the British head of the organization (Number One of Section One).

In Season 1, it was against the always very popular “The Red Skelton Hour” from CBS, and the rating was quite poor, with the show almost cancelled. When the show was...
"Open Channel D..."
I purchased the briefcase the first year it came out. A from me-me Christmas gift! It's terrific!! While it looks like all of the bonus features are listed in the box set description, I know one that is not: David McCallum's home movies. They'er great! He took his own camera and shot behind the scenes footage of the cast, crew sets and on location. if memory serves, David does the narration. But for those of you who don't want to-or can't spend the $$ on the complete set, can watch MFU on tv. Those of course that get the station ME-TV, can watch it. It's been airing since August/September of last year. As part of their "The Spies Who Love Me" block of shows which also include Mission Impossible and Get Smart.
These air between 10:00p.m.-1:00a.m. on Sunday night. {beginning with MFU at 10:00.)

BUYER BEWARE - but it is a great series!
To be clear, the five stars are for the series itself - while it may seem retro now, it was very influential to those of us who watched it as teens in the mid 60s.

BUT - you can purchase the identical 41 discs new on Amazon for about the half the price of this package. All that is new here IS the packaging - it is a slim format. If that is important enough for you to spend an additional $80, then buy it. But search Man From UNCLE in Amazon and you will see the "brief case" packaging available as new for HALF the price of this item. Same discs - they have not been remastered.

Whichever packaging you choose, the content is what is important, and this is a terrific series!

Underworld: Legacy Collection on Blu-ray
Underworld fans get a 4-disc Blu-ray Legacy Collection with four films: Underworld, Evolution, Rise of the Lycans and Awakening. This release adds Awakening to the Blu-ray collection but it remains the weakest of the films (the 3D version is not included but sold separately). UltraViolet Digital Copy codes are provided for the films. Overall, the picture quality is good but varies by film (the first three films could use a good remastering). However, the audio is great. There is over 5.5 hours of bonus content which is somewhat light for 4 films. Additional extras for Evolution and Rise of the Lycans would make this release a little more deluxe since the original Underworld gets the lion's share of the bonus content. Underworld fans who own the Trilogy Blu-ray collection may consider purchasing Awakening 3D on Blu-ray separately instead of upgrading to this set since it contains the same extras. The Underworld Legacy Collection is somewhat disappointing since it simply bundles the...
Underworld Box Set
This includes all 4 films. First one is indeed the extended version for those wondering. Each film comes in it's own case.

Great set!! Just wish they would have "remastered" the older two of the set.
Cool to get this four disc set with all four of the Underworld movies. Very disappointed Sony just repackaged the old blu rays and added the fourth one to make a set. They know that this franchise sells, so why not at least remaster the first two with the newer technologies of today. The first one was made awhile ago when blu ray technology was new. If any of the movies deserve a "remastering" it would be the first Underworld. A new hi def video transfer along with new soundtrack utilizing DTS-HD. And why use the same covers with each film housed in a blue plastic case (like typical blu ray) and not red ones or even a fold out type so the set would be thinner. These studios need to start making these "collections" collectible for the fans. But, they know how to save money AND make money. The last I checked this set is selling mighty well. Especially when you can get the whole set a few dollars more than Awakening alone.
All in all, this is a good set to show off to your friends...

Review :
Billy Jack A Classic Blast From The Past
Some reviewers want to rate these movies by today's standards and that is a little unfair to this set of B-movies. The movie "Billy Jack" was one of the most popular movies of it's time. It was released and re-released dozens of times in theaters and drive-ins back in the day. A movie that led to films like "Walking Tall", "Macon County Line" and more. These movies are very dated, but fun to watch. "Billy Jack Goes To Washington" was a victim of it's own ideals when the right to film in areas of Washington, D.C. was yanked upon hearing of it's plot line. If the Billy Jack films were released today, with today's technology and multiple media outlets, there probably would have been more films and might have led to a TV series, as well. These films aren't just about going up against 'the man', they are also about the injustice and mistreatment of the American Indian back in the day. Tom Laughlin is now in his 70's and won't be making any more Billy...

We live in troubled times. It appears we no longer have any heroes. Who can we look up to? No one....but luckily 1970s icon Billy Jack is back to give us all hope.

We've been suppressed by "The Man" for too long. "The Man" is both Democrat and Republican. "The Man" is whoever is in power over the decent, hard working common folk.

Billy Jack takes on "The Man" in this great DVD collection. Billy Jack is a half-breed Indian, West Point grad, and Vietnam vet, who although trys to remain true to his pacifist beliefs, will take on the "The Man" when "The Man" hurts the little guy. Better watch out when Billy Jack takes off his boots!

Billy Jack is not some mindless machine of violence. He usually ends up in a debate with Jean, the woman he loves, over the use of violence as a problem solving tactic.

Finally, proper special editions
This review is for the "Batman Anthology" set, where each movie is packaged in a new, 2-disc special edition. There is also an older, "Batman Legacy" set with the bare-bones editions, and Amazon seems to be grouping the two reviews together.

It's about time that Warner Home Video has finally given these superhero films the two disc, special-edition treatment they deserve. Each film comes with restored/enhanced video and audio, and all the special features one expects from a current dvd release these days; we get commentaries, archival music videos and trailers, making-of featurettes, interviews, retrospectives, and deleted scenes. The last bit will be of special interest to some fans, especially because the Batman Forever DVD finally includes those missing sequences we saw in the storybooks and trading cards (though they appear here in rough form). Also of interest to fans of the animated series is the abandoned "Robin sequence" from the original movie, where they got Kevin...
Good value, but the quality is terrible.
I'll admit that the price is cheap. Having all four films for less than $10 is great, but upon watching the first disc, I find that the quality of the transfer is absolutely terrible. Lots and lots of pixelation artifacts, especially when there's black on the screen, and let's face it, BATMAN was not a brightly lit film. The quality is barely, BAREly above VHS. I feel like they hooked a VCR up to a DVD recorder and had at it. I'm not even talking about grain (which I would expect from an older film transfer), but rather poor resolution. There are no solid diagonal lines, everything is blocky. The video looks like an SVCD that was poorly upconverted to DVD.

It's good value, if you're just looking for an affordable way to complete your collection, but if you're used to DVD-quality video, you will be disappointed...

Typical Warner home video release, just enough and crappy packaging
I bought this at Costco today -- this is as cheap as Warner can get, four BDs in a case designed for 2 with double-height spindles. So it LOOKS like you're getting 2 Blu-ray discs, but there are four.

That's it. Four discs. In a 2-disc case. Why, Warner, why??

As far as BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS, all the extras from the two-disc Special Editions are here. Unfortunately, Warner couldn't care less about the quality of the transfers. Sure you can see more detail in these BD releases, but there's been no restoration. Matte lines are starting to show, and in the case of BATMAN, very clear sprocket hole wear in the master print results in the main title jumping considerably. Paired with Danny Elfman's soaring crescendo when the title appears, the crisp gold title jittering about is pretty disappointing.

I only bought this for the first two (Tim Burton) films, and at Costco the price was less than the two as individual releases. So no great loss, but still...

This type of thing provides surpasses the anticipation, that one has become a fantastic replace on personally, The idea appeared safely as well as swiftly Alfred Hitchcock: The Essentials Collection - Limited Edition [Blu-ray]

Universally recognized as the Master of Suspense, the legendary Alfred Hitchcock directed some of cinema’s most thrilling and unforgettable classics. Alfred Hitchcock: The Essentials Collection features five iconic films from the acclaimed director’s illustrious career including Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho and The Birds each digitally restored from high resolution film elements. Starring Hollywood favorites such as James Stewart, Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Tippi Hedren, Eva Marie Saint, Kim Novak and Rod Taylor, this essential collection captures the most memorable moments in the career of a true cinematic master.

Review :
In Search of VERTIGO.
Before Blu-ray, the very best home video version of Vertigo was the anamorphic DVD that Universal sold only as one of the 14 Hitchcock titles in the Masterpiece Collection. (I believe this collection also had the only anamorphic DVD version of Psycho.) It appears that Universal has released its Blu-ray version of Vertigo only as part of two collections: The Masterpiece and The Essentials collections.

I am glad that Universal has made Vertigo available in its far less expensive Essentials Blu-ray collection. In my opinion, Vertigo is not the greatest film ever made, but it is of special interest to me because of its San Francisco locations and overall Bay Area setting. Vertigo, along with Shadow of a Doubt and The Birds may also be of interest to Northern California natives. Anyway, here are my quality ratings of the 5 films contained in the Essentials Collection in order of their appeal:

1. North By Northwest: I have seen nearly every Hitchcock film and this one...
Hitch at the apex of his career
Though he was an undisputed genius of the cinema, not everyone needs the complete Hitchcock features. If you're a keen fan, they're available on DVD in large, rather expensive box sets: the 15-disc Masterpiece, nine-disc Signature, and eight-disc Premiere Collections (these don't include his "non-Hitchcockian" silent films and talkies from the 1920s and early 30s). But many Hitchcock lovers recall the five films on this reasonably-priced five-disc set most fondly, and they are without question among his finest achievements, all of them produced in Hollywood between 1954 and 1963.

Presented with a few interesting extras and options, the DVDs will do nicely for many folks -- though not for the angry Blu-ray aficionados who've given the box single-star ratings. This may come as a shock to them, but some people who are just discovering Hitch have ordinary DVD players and 32-inch TVs and are not planning to spend thousands to upgrade their collections or their equipment. If you...
Don't think twice about buying this set if you want to see "Vertigo" at its best!
I have just received this item. I already had owned all of these movies, all but one in the "Masterpiece" DVD collection, also offered by Universal. My reason to purchase the present set was to own "Vertigo" in the High Definition Blu Ray format. It is one of my favorite movies, and recently named the best of all time by the British Film Institute. Filmed in VistaVision, the large frame format would seem to provide an excellent substrate for high resolution images. Within a few minutes, it was obvious how wonderful this new Blu Ray transfer is, compared to the already excellent DVD version. The mosquito noise, seen on the DVD, has vanished, revealing absolutely crystal-clear images- one can read the license plates on most of the cars, and even the small newsprint Scotty is perusing, while eavesdropping on Kim Novak, as she leaves her apartment. As importantly, color fidelity, and particularly color saturation, is awesome. Certainly, we have to thank Mr...

Review :
Video Quality Breakdown
If you are looking at this you know this is a classic series of movies. I am here to attempt to review the quality if the blu-ray transfer for each movie. I want a potential buyer to know what they are getting when it comes to a the video quality presented in this set

Case:

The design here is compact and neat. There is an oversized blu ray keep case that holds all 7 discs. The discs are in back to back holders.

Image Quality

Rocky :
This is definitely the best quality we have ever gotten. There is a question as to weather or not this is the best possible transfer we could get, but it is very difficult to judge something on conjecture. Anyway, the aspect ratio is 1.85:1 with a 1080p/mpeg2 transfer. This is the same remastering as the 2006 blu ray and we may not get a better version for a long time.

While watching the movie it looks very good, but there is significant noise on the screen at pints which can be distracting. This...
Enough about the price drop complaining, review the product!
Ok, I watched this set I borrowed from a friend and the picture isn't as bad as everyone says it is. Somewhere someone said they felt like they were watching a VHS tape...give me a break! While they obviously could have done a better job cleaning these up, they are for sure better than the DVD versions. But it's still a decent transfer...I'm sure there they will eventually be completely remastered.

As for those of you complaining about the price droppings...have you noticed the significant drop overall in blu-ray pricing? Now the blu-ray is becoming more mainstream, the prices are coming down! If there are no advantages to pre-ordering, then don't get it! Everyone has had a situation where they paid for something and later saw it cheaper and lost a few bucks. Amazon is still cheaper than going out to Best Buy or Wal-mart and getting it. Factor in that the majority of Amazon users don't have to pay tax and can have the items shipped to you for FREE, then that is even...
Best Rocky you'll ever see
The Rocky series is my favorite series of movies hands down. I know they are cliche and campy but I just adore them. This transfer is one of the best I've seen IMO. Now don't expect to watch Rocky I-V and it look as good as the Avatar blu ray because it just won't. But they are great transfers and the sound that is picked up on them that I've never heard before watching the old DVD releases is just amazing. If you like Rocky and are a fan of HD then you owe it to yourself to get this. The packaging looks great as well.

..And enough about the price drop. Seriously. If you want to complain, blog about it. Create a discussion on this product. Don't rate the product poorly because YOU paid too much.

Review :
Dark, gritty, and powerful
I recently finished all 7 seasons of The Shield. This series has to be in my top 5 TV series of all time.

The show is very character driven. Each one usually has a typical "cop show" subplot, but the broad arcs are about the characters. Make no mistake, this is a very dark show. I would find my moods affected by watching it often times. I like how "real" the characters are. Even the moral centers of the show do bad things and have human failings. In my view a large part of the series is a meditation on morality. Vic Mackey does some horrible things but is also in many ways a good and sometimes even heroic character. It embraces the shades of gray that real people are made up of.

If you have any attraction to action dramas then watch this show. After the first episode you will know if you like it or not. As a testament to how much I liked the series, after I finished it I went online and watched the videos F/X hosted of conversations with the cast and...
Cool format although removing the dics can be a challenge

Awesome show, packaging issues fixed
Before I review the Shiled itself, I want to let everyone interested in the show know that the packaging issues involving scratched discs has been addressed. The book like format is the same, but the packaging now contains slip covers for each disc of the show. This prevents the discs from getting scratched, and provides further and better cover to each disc. Be warned though, if not careful in pulling out the discs with the slip, scratching may still occur. Otherwise, the pacackaging is pretty cool, with pictures, and references to the entirety of the show. For those a fan of the show, its a pretty nice rememberance, for those new, it provides several clues with relatively minor spoilers.

As to the show, to call it one of the finest cop dramas is a bit limiting. It is just one of the finest shows. The acting is top notch, with you often losing the feeling your watching actors, and truly feeling like your watching a documentary. The writing is just as good. In...

Star Trek I : The Original Motion Picture
Back when the first Star Trek feature was released in December 1979, the Trek franchise was still relatively modest, consisting of the original TV series, an animated cartoon series from 1973-74, and a burgeoning fan network around the world. Series creator Gene Roddenberry had conceived a second TV series, but after the success of Star Wars the project was upgraded into this lavish feature film, which reunited the original series cast aboard a beautifully redesigned starship U.S.S. Enterprise. Under the direction of Robert Wise (best known for West Side Story), the film proved to be a mixed blessing for Trek fans, who heatedly debated its merits; but it was, of course, a phenomenal hit. Capt. Kirk (William Shatner) leads his crew into the vast structures surrounding V'Ger, an all-powerful being that is cutting a destructive course through Starfleet space. With his new First Officer (Stephen Collins), the bald and beautiful Lieutenant Ilia (played by the late Persis Khambatta) and his returning veteran crew, Kirk must decipher the secret of V'Ger's true purpose and restore the safety of the galaxy. The story is rather overblown and derivative of plots from the original series, and avid Trekkies greeted the film's bland costumes with derisive laughter. But as a feast for the eyes, this is an adventure worthy of big-screen trekkin'. Douglas Trumbull's visual effects are astonishing, and Jerry Goldmith's score is regarded as one of the prolific composer's very best (with its main theme later used for Star Trek: The Next Generation). And, fortunately for Star Trek fans, the expanded 143-minute version (originally shown for the film's network TV premiere) is generally considered an improvement over the original theatrical release. --Jeff Shannon

Star Trek II :The Wrath of Khan
Although Star Trek: The Motion Picture had been a box-office hit, it was by no means a unanimous success with Star Trek fans, who responded much more favorably to the "classic Trek" scenario of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Inspired by the "Space Seed" episode of the original TV series, the film reunites newly promoted Admiral Kirk with his nemesis from the earlier episode--the genetically superior Khan (Ricardo Montalban)--who is now seeking revenge upon Kirk for having been imprisoned on a desolated planet. Their battle ensues over control of the Genesis device, a top-secret Starfleet project enabling entire planets to be transformed into life-supporting worlds, pioneered by the mother (Bibi Besch) of Kirk's estranged and now-adult son. While Mr. Spock mentors the young Vulcan Lt. Saavik (then-newcomer Kirstie Alley), Kirk must battle Khan to the bitter end, through a climactic starship chase and an unexpected crisis that will cost the life of Kirk's closest friend. This was the kind of character-based Trek that fans were waiting for, boosted by spectacular special effects, a great villain (thanks to Montalban's splendidly melodramatic performance), and a deft combination of humor, excitement, and wondrous imagination. Director Nicholas Meyer (who would play a substantial role in the success of future Trek features) handles the film as a combination of Moby Dick, Shakespearean tragedy, World War II submarine thriller, and dazzling science fiction, setting the successful tone for the Trek films that followed. --Jeff Shannon

Star Trek III : The Search for Spock
You didn't think Mr. Spock was really dead, did you? When Spock's casket landed on the surface of the Genesis planet at the end of Star Trek II, we had already been told that Genesis had the power to bring "life from lifelessness." So it's no surprise that this energetic but somewhat hokey sequel gives Spock a new lease on life, beginning with his rebirth and rapid growth as the Genesis planet literally shakes itself apart in a series of tumultuous geological spasms. As Kirk is getting to know his estranged son (Merritt Butrick), he must also do battle with the fiendish Klingon Kruge (Christopher Lloyd), who is determined to seize the power of Genesis from the Federation. Meanwhile, the regenerated Spock returns to his home planet, and Star Trek III gains considerable interest by exploring the ceremonial (and, of course, highly logical) traditions of Vulcan society. The movie's a minor disappointment compared to Star Trek II, but it's a--well, logical--sequel that successfully restores Spock (and first-time film director Leonard Nimoy) to the phenomenal Trek franchise...as if he were ever really gone. With Kirk's willful destruction of the U.S.S. Enterprise and Robin Curtis replacing the departing Kirstie Alley as Vulcan Lt. Saavik, this was clearly a transitional film in the series, clearing the way for the highly popular Star Trek IV. --Jeff Shannon

Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home
Jumping on to the end-of-the-century bandwagon a little early, Paramount Pictures released 10 of their top films in one 10-pack, the Millennium Collection, in 1998. All the films are presented in their widescreen editions; one, Breakfast at Tiffany's, is offered in this format for the first time. The set includes 5 Best Picture Oscar winners and films that took home an additional 33 Academy Awards. All the tapes are available to buy individually. The pack, with a handsome mosaic of faces from the movies, also features collector gift cards (a movie version of baseball cards) and a commemorative booklet detailing the productions of all 10 films. The collection is oddly weighted toward the last 25 years, offering only one film from the 1950s and one from the 1960s. Your taste in current cinema will define the value of the set. Besides Tiffany's, one of Audrey Hepburn's finest films, the collection contains: The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston, Grease with John Travolta, Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now and The Godfather, the funny, whale-saving Star Trek IV--The Voyage Home, Tom Cruise's hit Top Gun, the smash hit Ghost with Demi Moore, Mel Gibson's Celt fest Braveheart, and Forrest Gump with Tom Hanks. --Doug Thomas

Star Trek V :The Final Frontier
Movie critic Roger Ebert summed it up very succinctly: "Of all of the Star Trek movies, this is the worst." Subsequent films in the popular series have done nothing to disprove this opinion; we can be grateful that they've all been significantly better since this film was released in 1989. After Leonard Nimoy scored hits with Star Trek III and IV, William Shatner used his contractual clout (and bruised ego) to assume directorial duties on this mission, in which a rebellious Vulcan (Laurence Luckinbill) kidnaps Federation officials in his overzealous quest for the supreme source of creation. That's right, you heard it correctly: Star Trek V is about a crazy Vulcan's search for God. By the time Kirk, Spock, and their Federation cohorts are taken to the Great Barrier of the galaxy, this journey to "the final future" has gone from an embarrassing prologue to an absurd conclusion, with a lot of creaky plotting in between. Of course, die-hard Trekkies will still allow this movie into their video collections; but they'll only watch it when nobody else is looking. After this humbling experience, Shatner wisely relinquished the director's chair to Star Trek II's Nicholas Meyer. --Jeff Shannon

Star Trek VI : The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek V left us nowhere to go but up, and with the return of Star Trek II director Nicholas Meyer, Star Trek VI restored the movie series to its classic blend of space opera, intelligent plotting, and engaging interaction of stalwart heroes and menacing villains. Borrowing its subtitle (and several lines of dialogue) from Shakespeare, the movie finds Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) and his fellow Enterprise crew members on a diplomatic mission to negotiate peace with the revered Klingon Chancellor Gorkon (David Warner). When the high-ranking Klingon and several officers are ruthlessly murdered, blame is placed on Kirk, whose subsequent investigation uncovers an assassination plot masterminded by the nefarious Klingon General Chang (Christopher Plummer) in an effort to disrupt a historic peace summit. As this political plot unfolds, Star Trek VI takes on a sharp-edged tone, with Kirk and Spock confronting their opposing views of diplomacy, and testing their bonds of loyalty when a Vulcan officer is revealed to be a traitor. With a dramatic depth befitting what was to be the final movie mission of the original Star Trek crew, this film took the veteran cast out in respectably high style. With the torch being passed to the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation, only Kirk, Scotty, and Chekov would return, however briefly, in Star Trek: Generations. --Jeff Shannon

Review :
I've actually seen what I review!!!
I'm floored by the number of reviews here that give this a 1 star review, and then state that they haven't seen the movies. If you actually compare the picture quality with these new BDs to previous DVDs, you do see a vast improvement. Star Trek II, III, and IV have more consistant color and detail then what I saw in the DVDs. In previous editions of ST III, I always noticed an upped contrast in comparison to II and IV: but in this set, it's in line with all the other movies. There seems to be a lot of rumors here about what "Digitally Restored" is over "Digitally Remastered" (as TWOK was the only to get "Digitally Restored"). A digital restoration is when it's accessed that there has to be a new edit of the film due to the state of the print (it could be going in and adjusting color levels for consistancy or even digitally painting out blemishes). It seems Paramount found TWOK to be the only movie in need of a restoration: when you see the other movies on a HDTV, you can easily...
A Pleasant Surprise
Having just gone through my set of the Blu-Rays, I'm very happily surprised at the content. The only aspect keeping this from being a 4 or 5 star review is the fact that only the theatrical versions are available. Blu-Ray is specifically made to hold a great deal more data than any prior video or DVD format. Aside from the issues regarding the new effects of the director's cut of TMP, there's little reason (other than monetary) for Paramount to hold back the extended cuts. Seamless branching, used so successfully on the TOS first season set, would work equally well here.

The Motion Picture is another story, since the new effects were rendered for lower resolution and it will take time and, of course, money to rerender them. We can expect to see a Director's Edition release on BD in the near future, I'm sure. However, this does not excuse the lack of the inclusion of the extended TV cut put out on video.

Having said that, it is an amazing thrill having the...

This 8 disc boxset includes Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety, History of the World Part I, Robinhood Men in Tights, Silent Movie, To Be or Not to Be, Twelve Chairs, Young Frankenstein. There are plenty of belly laughs in The Mel Brooks Collection, an eight-disc set of most of the director-writer-actor's best-known films. Four of them--Silent Movie, High Anxiety, To Be or Not to Be, and Robin Hood: Men with Tights--are making their debut on DVD, while a fifth, The Twelve Chairs, was briefly available as a non-anamorphic DVD from Image Entertainment (all the DVDs in this set are anamorphically enhanced for widescreen TVs). That means you can sample a 23-year stretch of Brooks's outrageous and affectionate spoofing of everything from movies to popular legends to movies to historical figures to, hey! more movies.

The earliest film, The Twelve Chairs (1970), is the least known, but is one of the funniest, helped greatly by a good story (adapted from a 1920s Russian tale) and the casting of Ron Moody and Frank Langella as treasure hunters. Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles followed in 1974. The former, a spoof of horror films, is easily one of the top two or three funniest movies of all time, and the latter is justly famous for its often-tasteless send-up of Western cliches. Silent Movie (1976) is just what the title describes, with its only word of dialogue spoken from the least-likely source, and High Anxiety (1977) pays tribute to the work of Alfred Hitchcock. History of the World, Part 1 (1981) mocks historical events and epics, and To Be or Not to Be (1983) is a remake of Ernst Lubitsch's 1942 classic of the same name (it's also the only film in the set for which Brooks didn't receive writing and directing credit). By this time, Brooks was more actively taking the leading roles himself (rather than the bit parts), and unfortunately relying less on his topnotch ensemble of recurring players, which included Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Harvey Korman, and Dom DeLuise. But he does use a new ensemble (including Cary Elwes and, in his film debut, Dave Chappelle), for Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), the feature-length spin on the same hero Brooks had spoofed in his short-lived 1975 television series When Things Were Rotten.

Bonus features are minor. In addition to an HBO featurette on Men in Tights, there's a featurette and interviews on To Be or Not to Be and all the features (Brooks commentary, deleted scenes, interviews, etc.) that were on the original release of Young Frankenstein. Note that while rights issues kept The Producers, Spaceballs, and other films out of this set, 20th Century Fox was able to use Warner Bros.' Blazing Saddles. The features on that disc, however, are the ones that were on the 1997 DVD release, not the 2004 anniversary reissue. Regardless, the set's price for this many films is low, and because it has so many films new to DVD, Brooks fans will want to pick this up faster than they can say... What a Great Collection - Filled With Extras
I was originally looking to only replace one DVD movie. However when I went looking on Amazon I saw that the collection was on a Timed Deal on Amazon. It had an extreme price cut and I could not pass it up. However even at the higher price it appears to be a value balancing both the content and price per disk in the set. I believe it to be worth the investment so as one would say the buy is not just a "Roll in the Hay" (pardon the Pun).

Here is the low down on the collection:

1) The Box and Packaging of the disks is very good. Includes a cover box and a plastic multi-disk case. (The disks did not shift out of their spot in shipping) Disks also go in and out of the case easily. The Silk Screening on the Box Art is well done. Great selection of Cover Art which is a picture of Mel Brooks as a "Director".
2) You receive quite a number of movies for the price. Silk Screening on the disks is clean and crisp.
3) The picture quality is better than...
Great Set for a Great Price!
Since I grew up in the 80's, I grew up with Mel Brooks' films. I have been a fan for as long as I can remember. When I saw this set listed on Amazon for $45.99, I couldn't pass it up. I must say that Fox has outdone themselves here. Those of you who have been buying Fox's DVDs and blu-rays probably know that there is nothing special about the majority of them, as many are lacking special features, etc. But not so with this set. First of all, the video transfers on all nine movies are simply incredible. I have watched all of these movies on DVD in the past, and the blu-ray versions just blows them all away. Every movie also has an impressive collection of special features. These include excellent documentaries (many of which are in HD), deleted scenes, trailers, TV Spots, etc. My only (albeit small) complaint here is that I wish more of the films had commentaries, because I love listening to Mel talk about the making of his movies. He is funny, witty, and he tells a great story. Also...
Good set but I'd wait for the individual releases--phone # for Fox Cust. Svc
Most of the movies here are classics which makes it a problem if you don't want all the movies. The version of "Blazing Saddles" is the earlier release from Warner which doesn't look as good as the 30th Anniversary re-release and the extras aren't any great shakes. The transfer looks so-so and lacks the sharper look of the later 30th Anniversary Edition. "Young Frankenstein" resembles the first DVD release of the film from Fox with the same extras. Reportedly "Young Frankenstein" was supposed to be remastered in anamorphic widescreen but the wrong master used or the wrong discs shipped with this set. For those that care it's not anamorphic. The film looks extremely good but if you already have these classic films, I'd suggest waiting for these to be released individually.

Fans of Brooks will be buying this for the previously unreleased films "Silent Movie", "Robin Hood:Men in Tights", "To Be or Not to Be" (which Brooks didn't direct but stars in) and "High Anxiety". All...

All...

GREAT movies, but FOX dropped the ball hard
First, let me start by saying I love the Die Hard movies. So when I saw this collection on BD, I just couldn't refuse!

You already know the movies, so let's get to the overall package.

Positives:
+ DTS MA on every movie that really reinvigorates the films
+ Good set of extras, not a single feature from the standard DVDs is left out, making you think these are the definitive versions to have
+ Special box saves you space on shelf and keeps discs safe. It's a little bigger than the Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series [Blu-ray] boxset (without the slipcase).
+ Exactly the same discs as individual releases, so you're not getting gimped versions of the already released BD movies --they're the same.
+ Live Free or Die Hard is a total show-stopper, demo material, A+ reference disc. Both in terms of video and audio, this is one of the best movies to showcase what High...
2009 version replaced with this 2013 version
This review was for the original Die Hard Collection released in 2009, not the recent 25th Anniversary Collection released in 2013. So this review below is for the 2009 set, not the 2013 set. I do not own the 2013 set (25th Anniversary Collection). Check when other reviews were written by other members to see if they posted recent reviews for the 2013 edition.

When I think Blu-ray, I expect high quality video and sound, otherwise there is no point to buying a blu-ray version of an already existing dvd.
The first two movies, Die Hard 1 & 2 from the 80's, look terrible visually. FOX did a horrible job in re-mastering these for blu-ray, or they did not re-master them at all. It is possible they used the regular dvd's and just up-converted them without remastering/restoring them digitally. Sound is decent. The third film, Die Hard with a Vengeance is more recent from the 90's, but it doesn't look great. The fourth film does look good and sounds great, but it would be...
Die Hard 25th Anniversary Collection on Blu Ray
Tons of plot summaries and opinions on which movies were better than the others to be found elsewhere so I just provide reviews of the quality of the transfers from SD to the Blu Ray editions found in this collection. I have the SD collection of these but no previous BR versions so this will not be a side by side comparison. Before I continue, this review is for the 25th Anniversary Collection on Blu Ray. Amazon mixes up so many of the collections and formats one might not know which review is for which. There will be some, I am sure, who will perhaps disagree with some of my evaluations, however, disagreements can sometimes be created simply based upon the monitor and theater system that one uses. My home theater is fairly esoteric and of very high quality, glad I bought it when I still had a job.

Packaging: Book type of disc holder which certainly takes up less room on your shelf. Unfortunately, the pages each separate disc goes into are made of smooth cardboard...

includes the extended versions of 5 & 6
The movies are what you would expect. So I'm not writing a review on them. This is for the packaging and versions included. Standard cardboard box with two bluray clam shells. 3 discs in each. Movies 5 & 6 are the extended versions (I wasn't sure if 5 would be the extended version, since the description didn't specify this). All the codes for the digital copies worked on my vudu & itunes U.S. accounts.

You Can't Beat this Set
I love this series and this set was perfect. You not only get all 6 movies but all the special features. I loved also that Fast Five still had the option of the extended edition. Buy it!

It's simple, if you're a car guy these movies are for YOU!!!! I love all kinds of sports cars!!! I love that the movies come inside a tire with the F&F logo on it!! It actually feels like rubber on a tire!! Great actors, great cars, great plots, and so much more!! There is reserved space for Furious 7!! I finally understand what it means to say R.I.P Paul Walker!!!!!!! Get this!!!!

Worst Special Edition Ever
This review is about this specific product, not the movies...

The packaging is the absolute worst I've ever seen for a DVD or a Bluray. They're all thrown together in a little cardboard bangle that's never going to hold up with any handling. It's impossible to get them out without touching the playing surface, usually of several of the discs at once.

Then there's the annoyance factor of the Bluray/DVD "features". You have to chapter skip through 8 previews and commercials to get to a menu, you can't just press menu. The menu you get to has two options, "Main Menu" or "Play". Press "Main Menu" and you get a talking skull that talks at you for a couple of minutes before actually getting to the Main Menu - why not just always go to the main menu? Then there's the usual 30 seconds of logos, warnings, and disclaimers.

And if that wasn't all bad enough, there's no way to bookmark the Bluray's, and they don't automatically resume from where you shut them down...
Gold coin case is just paper
I was really looking forward to getting this box set and would have given it a 5 star review had it not come with a cheap paper cardboard case to hold the discs. By looking at the picture, I thought it would at least be a hard case made of plastic! I wouldn't mind so much but a case like that will surely deteriorate over time. The chest on the other hand is quite durable and made from heavy plastic.

No More Special/Limited Editions For Me
I just received this product, the chest is ok... but by the picture of the item listing I was thinking you get a round plastic holder replica of the skull coin, you don't, it's just a a paper skull coin wrapper holding the numerous discs in place. Honestly if I'd known that I would have just bought them separately and saved a little money. The little scroll map is also quite cheap as well... looking at the chest up close, it too is quite cheaply made with sloppy painting, they didn't even paint consistently over the metal pins holding the chest together.

More on the "coin" holder... it's basically paper with velcro snaps holding it shut. I'll post pictures later, not in the mood since this turns out to be a bit of a downer. It is a fan style index card type holder and it's kind of hard to find where to slide the discs back into...

I'll review the movies later, as for quality etc. Mainly I've rated this 3 stars for the "special limited edition" packaging which for...

Review :
The digital copy is a nice touch as well
This box set is legit. Not only boasting numerous hours of extra features, it includes the original film in both 2D and 3D bluray, Lost World in bluray and Jurassic III in bluray. The case includes slots for the upcoming bluray release of Jurassic World for both 2D and 3D. The digital copy is a nice touch as well. It allows you to sync the ultraviolet copy to a number of video streaming services such as VUDU and FLIXTER. It also allows you to add to your itunes library. Would highly recommend!

Lost World needs work.
Pretty decent. Nice package. The extra slots for Jurassic World is pretty cool. The transfer for Jurassic Park 2 was pretty bad though.
It just didn't look good compared to the other two.

Great Set!!!
Nice set love it great movies all put into one set it's also nice that they include slots for Jurassic World so that its a complete set great special features and sound is amazing if your a Jurassic Park fan or just a dinosaur fan you will love this set can't wait for Jurassic World!!!
