An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father, a recovering alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path toward the title prize, his brother Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. Even though years have passed, recriminations and past betrayals keep Brendan bitterly estranged from both Tommy and his father. But when Brendan's unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a collision course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront the forces that tore them apart, all the while waging the most intense winner-take-all battle of their lives. Some men make their peace by hugging it out, but the men in Warrior communicate through their fists. Paddy Condon (Nick Nolte) trained his sons to be ultimate fighting champions, but alcohol, divorce, and a span of 14 years has driven them apart. Now Brendan (Animal Kingdom's Joel Edgerton) works as a science teacher, while Tommy (Tom Hardy, looking even burlier than he did in Bronson) has returned to Pittsburgh in the wake of his mother's death. He contacts his estranged father only because he wants to fight again. Paddy knows better than to ask what he's been doing in the meantime, but details of Tommy's time in the marines come to light just as his brother also plans a return to the ring, a move his wary wife (House's Jennifer Morrison) supports only because they'll lose their home otherwise. It's a foregone conclusion that the brothers will face each other in Atlantic City for the mixed martial arts competition with the $5 million prize, though Miracle director Gavin O'Connor makes the meeting surprisingly believable by capturing the bouts that lead up to the main event. Throughout, Tommy fights like Tyson, knocking out opponents in a single blow, while Brendan wears them down through dogged persistence. The actors give it their all, but O'Connor stretches his underwritten script too far, leaving Tommy overly enigmatic, so it's fortunate that Brendan emerges as a more fully rounded figure, proving that Edgerton's move from the stage to the screen was a wise course of action. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Review :
This War Is Not in an MMA Cage
Except for the lack of a SPOILER note at the beginning of the first reviewer, I think these first two reviews pretty much cover the story and hit some high points of the film. I do want to disagree with some of the remarks, though.

First, I would not call this a sports movie. It is not Rocky, Raging Bull, The Wrestler, or The Fighter. Warrior, according to many professional critics, is better than all of them, and I agree. There is the suspense factor of who will win the championship fight, for sure, and the stand-up-and-cheer factor as the opponents are picked off one by one, and there is the heartwarming factor as the school teacher tries to save his home from foreclosure. These cliches somehow are not relevant to this film and I salute O'Connor and the other writers for telling a story that glosses over them.

As some reviewers have pointed out, this film is not really about MMA (mixed martial arts) winners and losers. Like others, I had never heard of MMA...
Best sports film I have ever seen
I went to an advanced screening (my first) and I must feel the need to brag about how lucky I was to see it a week before everyone else has. The film itself is......wow. There really aren't that many films that make you feel like you are actually living the life of another individual alongside that person or persons, but this film does! The writing is absolutely great and realistic, with the characters' dialogue ingraining itself in your memory for days to come. It also paints an amazing and provoking story. Tommy Riordan (Tom Hardy) is a war hero who has just returned from service and looks to enter a MMA tournament, the prize of which is $5 million. At first, it appears that the reason he is doing this is just for pure activity and for fun, but it is eventually revealed that he wants to donate his prize to support the wife and children of his slain war buddy. The man has got some raw talent, due to the fact that his father, Paddy Conlon (Nick Nolte) trained him in wrestling and...
Freaking Fantastic-A Must See!!!
I loved this movie! This is the best movie I have seen in a long time. Not only are the fight scenes incredibly exicting, but the family drama is very moving. I cried during this film more than once. I think I am a little in love with Tom Hardy now. Nick Nolte, Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton all gave Oscar Worthy performances.

Tommy (Hardy) and Brendan (Edgerton) are estranged brothers who both enter the same MMA Tournament. Tommy is an ex-Marine, an Iraq War hero, fighting for a fallen brother and Brendan is a married Physics Teacher fighting to keep a roof over his family's head. They have an ex-alcoholic, ex-abusive father that they both dislike who caused heartache and a terrible childhood for both of them. Their father, played by Nick Nolte (incredible performance)tries like hell to make it up to both of them and becomes Tommy's trainer. Their past mistakes and regrets all come to a head in the arena.

This is a beautiful and moving story about love and...

Another great performance from Charlize Theron in DARK PLACES that's well worth a watch...
DARK PLACES is a drama/mystery about a poor Kansas City family who were murdered 30 years ago. There were two remaining members of that family; one was a girl (out of 3 girls and 1 boy) named "Libby Day" and the other was her brother, "Ben Day" who is serving a life sentence in prison for the murders.
I don't want to spoil the story for anyone because this movie is definitely worth a watch, in my opinion. As usual, Charlize Theron gives an outstanding performance as "Libby" who was a child when her family was killed and is now, 30 years later, still pretty directionless and immature.
There are lots of little sub-plots which also makes this film engrossing and the other actors in this movie play their parts to perfection, as well. This is an extremely well done film and I enjoyed watching every minute of it! I was really surprised that I'd never even heard of this movie. The only reason I didn't give this movie 5 stars is because I felt, at times, that...
Great movie. Would watch again. Twists and turns.
This was a good movie. I had never heard of it till I came a cross it while looking at new releases. I love horror or thrillers. This is a psychological thriller. I liked it very much. It is about a woman who's family was killed when she w as a child. She was the key witness against her brother who was jailed for the crimes. She has lead a hard life and gets roped in to investigating the crime. This movie has many twists and turns. Some are expected some are not. I thought Charliez Theron was a powerhouse like always. I would call it a mystery type movie. Those are hard to get right now days because most twist people have seen coming over and over. I think you'll like this if you give it a try.

Excellent
This movie is based on my least favorite Gillian Flynn novel, so my expectations were lower than for Gone Girl. Turns out this is every bit as good a movie as Gone Girl, if not better. The acting is incredible, not only by Charlize Theron, but by the entire cast. Because the book flashes back and forth in time and among points of view, I worried that the movie would not do the book justice and might make an already complicated story incomprehensible. However, the screenwriter handled this complex story beautifully. Even though I knew the outcome ahead of time, I was enthralled- glued to the screen by the riveting story and performances. Charlize Theron had my total sympathy as Libby Day, whereas I found Libby very hard to like when I read the book. The movie actually has me rethinking my original evaluation of the novel, and I think I’ll reread.

Review :
"Mrs. Peel, we're needed"
I was 13 years old in 1966 flipping through the 5 television channels then available when I came across the scene of a man dressed as a giant bird climbing the outside of a city building. There was very little in the way of science fiction or comic book related video entertainment on television at the time so I eagerly kept watching. I was lucky enough to have found an episode of The Avengers and, in one evening, became a lifelong fan of both that series and of British programming in general.

The Avengers ran from 1961 through 1969. But the value of the stylish British import lies chiefly in the episodes that paired Diana Rigg with Patrick Macnee from 1965 to 1968. Rigg had replaced Bond girl Honor Blackman as English superspy Emma Peel for the show's fourth season, the first to be available in the US, and nothing like her had ever been seen on the television screen. The cat-suitted Peel used a kung fu fighting style to defeat England's enemies. John Steed would...
Tastefully Eccentric
About 15 years ago, I ordered the Emma Peel episodes on VHS tape, and have been enjoying them since. Now that the series is released on DVD at a reasonable price, I think I will treat myself to an upgrade; if nothing else, it's only a matter of time before no-one's making videotape players any more.
I grew up in the UK, and was aged 7-10 when this series was shown. Several reviewers have credited the BBC with this production, but in fact it was one of the UK's commercial channels which produced it - ABC I think. I remember how everyone in my household - from my grandparents down - was infected by the show's quirky humor from a cast of eccentric characters, both the heroes and the villains, as well as the various interlopers. It always seemed that everyone in the house was in a silly but cheerful mood after watching an episode of 'The Avengers', most especially during the Emma Peel years. I loved the imagination behind all the plots, then and now. In fact, that's the...
The Show is from Heaven--the Packaging is from Hell
I discovered the Avengers in the mid-1970s when I was a teen. (It was shown at obscenely late hours on a then-unknown Atlanta cable station called WTCG, just purchased by Ted Turner who would turn it into TBS.) Fell head over heels in love with Steed AND Mrs. Peel. I wanted to be her; she was perfect. And I wanted to go places with him. His imperterbability on those wild adventures was heavenly, his charm, his taste in clothes divine, and who didn't want a brolley with a built-in saber or a bowler with a steel plate inside?

In later years I saw the Tara King stuff and later still, the girls who'd come first. But Mrs. Peel and Steed went together for me like chalk and cheese, as they say. So I had to get this set.

The adventures are very much as I remember--kooky and wild and often psychedelic. Mrs. Peel is still the ultimate lady--who's still able to rip a guy's head off without breaking a nail. Steed is still the perfect gentleman who can get knocked into a...

Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga
If you're a big fan of the Twilight Saga, then you're going to love this set. If you don't yet own the movies on blu-ray, then this is probably the set you'll want to purchase. If you do already own them, then you need to decide if an upgrade is worth it. I'm not sure if it is, but below is a breakdown of exactly what's in this set (the most important of which is 2 hours of new Bonus Features) so you can decide for yourself.

The packaging is double-sided, with Edward/Bella on the front and Jacob on the back. The blu-ray discs come housed inside an exclusive photo-album case (with the discs inserted into the pages rather than in normal blu-ray cases). Unfortunately, while this type of book-style packaging is nice to look at, it has been known to scratch the discs - you'll want to be very careful removing the discs for viewing.

This is a 10-Disc Blu-Ray set. Here is a breakdown of the discs:

Love the packaging!
Beautiful packaging on this set. A book slides out of the sleeve and inside the book are wonderful pictures with the cd's inside. Very neat! I have photos I'm going to try to submit.

Twilight Fans Get 10-Disc Set
Twilight is about a teenage girl (Kristen Stewart) who risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire (Robert Pattinson). Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga encompasses all five films with almost 2 hours of brand new content (not to mention over 10 hours of bonuses containing every special feature ever released for the films). Twilight fans will love the deluxe treatment their franchise receives in this release. You also get an UltraViolet copy of each film (not compatible with iTunes). If you already own the films you should know the movies have not been remastered for this release but they still look and sound great. The new content is fairly average overall and somewhat repetitive so some fans may not want to upgrade if they already own the films.

Review :
Robotech's Latest Set
I got mixed feelings about this set. On the one hand, it seems the perfect choice for anyone who hasn't yet gotten the 85 Remastered eps and movies on DVD and in some ways it can be argued that, but it does have its faults. The packaging is terrible in my honest opinion, discs are stacked on top of each other all for the sake of saving space, some coming loose surprisingly easy despite being very careful with how I was handling the case. This was a very risky call by Lion's Gate, I far more prefer the packaging of A&E's prior Complete sets (even ADV's Protoculture set as well), I understand A&E, Lion's Gate, and Harmony Gold wanted to release this to meet popular demand of Robotech from people that have never gotten it on this format and the dwindling amount of prior sets' stock in stores, but this was pretty dang lazy.

On to things I did like, the packaging art is quite beautiful, though I have more of a preference liking to the prior A&E set's trio images of updated...
Nothing new but its all here
Robotech The Complete Set has its flaws. Years of rereleasing the same material has ultimately worn the fresh look of this saga down.

Harmony Gold should have thrown these into the remastering mix and released a much awaited Blu Ray release of these titles. Instead, we have received what most people already own at least twice. Regurgitation has become a common occurence for Harmoony Gold.

The collection includes the 85 episode saga along with all the movies with the exception of the now vastly edited Robotech Movie due to licensing issues. It’s sad because i rather liked this movie and feel that something special was taken away.

Had you already purchased the 2 movie collection earlier this year of Love, Live , Alive & The Shadow Chronicles, you will be double dipping as they are here too along with more features not given to buyers before.

The biggest problem is that you will go out and buy this complete set & think you have it all...
Flawed re-master
I have no problem with Robotech being a mix of 3 other series into one story. I'm submitting this poor rating because of what I consider a flawed presentation inherent in the product.

The trouble I have with this release is the mind-numbing, atrocious decision to change the sound effects. They are AWFUL. They sound clean and strong, but the replacement sounds chosen are nothing like the originals. They sound generic and cringe-worthy, especially those sound effects associated with the weaponry and veritech/mecha movements & mode changes. The video/music presentation is clean considering the age of the material and constrained budget, but the sound effects used for these remastered episodes are newly sourced, and they fall short of the originals by miles. I verified the differences by referencing old copies sourced from broadcast.

I can visualize that a great deal of effort went into remastering the visuals and recreating the audio tracks, and likely under a...

not worth the price
The previews are longer than the movies; all trying to sell the other leap frog movies. Extremely hard to sit through the in-your-face advertising that builds you up for no more of an educational experience than your toddler would get from watching Sesamie Street for free on public access tv. Complete garbage, I could have bought an entire season of any Disney Jr program and gotten 100 times more for the money.

waste of money
Bought this item and only one of the DVDs work. The other two skip (repeat the same thing over and over)...waste of money! Buy directly from Amazon instead of this seller.

Disappointed
I got this because a friend gave me the older ones. This doesn't give you the sounds of the alphabet as they're learning them. I was disappointed because there's a lot out there for learning their ABC's but not the phonics of them. That's what I wanted. All the cd's seem more entertainment based than educational now.

Brilliant movie about the flaws in the justice system, and one man who tries to correct them. I love this movie. I say A+
How far would you go to correct a wrong? After agreeing to take on a case he assumes is an easy win Mickey (McConaughey) soon learns appearances are deceiving. When he finds out the truth and tries to expose it his friends and family are put at risk. I have to admit I actually think McConaughey is very good at playing parts like this. As in "Time To Kill" and "Two For The Money". The smooth man pushed to the edge. Saying almost anything about the movie will give too much info away but I will admit that after being in the "Movie Business" for over 10 years I've seen enough that it's very hard for me to be surprised at a movies ending. The twist at the end of this one had me totally thrown and I love when that happens. I had high expectations for this and it surpassed them all. Watch this movie, you will not regret it. I loved it. As a plus this is a movie that exposes the flaws in the justice system, which will make you mad, and at the same time make you wish more lawyers are like...

The Lincoln Lawyer was a refreshing film for two paramount reasons: it's one of the top films of the year and its Matthew McConaughey's best performance to date. I generally like McConaughey movies but he's played a lot of goofballs.

More often than not he's a buffoon or a slacker who has beautiful women flocking to him and we never question it because he's Matthew McConaughey. The ladies in his films never question it for this same reason and because he usually has his shirt off. But here he's charming, intelligent, slick, and meticulously perfect at everything; particularly the work he does...
Good old-fashioned legal thriller
This legal thriller is a refreshing break from all of the mindless, style-over-substance 3D fare Hollywood is churning out lately. It's a throwback to the days of classic courtroom dramas and police procedurals, with enough interesting twists and turns to keep eyeballs glued to the screen. Matthew McConaughey is superbly cast as the smooth operator lawyer. The rest of the casting is also exceptional, down to some of the bit parts like the bail bondsman, the jailhouse snitch, the biker, and the busted hooker. (I especially appreciated William H. Macy as the private investigator; I do wish that Marisa Tomei had a meatier role that allowed her to shine as she did in "My Cousin Vinny.") Michael Connelly is one of the best current authors in the hard-boiled police procedural genre, and the adaptation stays pretty true to his spirit. As someone who works in the criminal justice system, I appreciated the realism. Money, connections, backroom wheeling and dealing, and simple twists of fate...
